RAID PYRÉNÉEN

A TRUE CYCLING CHALLENGE

Devised in 1950 by the Pau Cycling Club, the “Raid” is today overseen by the Cycle Club Béarnais.

Following the French / Spanish border you will traverse many of the cols that have been made legendary by the Tour de France, including Tourmalet, Aubisque, Col de Portet d’Aspet and Col d’Aspin.

A true cycling classic every cyclist should attempt during their riding career.

DAY 1

Meet and greet at the airport and transferred to your hotel in Hendaye.

Unpack and set up your bike. 

Dinner with an introductory talk.

DAY 2

Hendaye to

Lurbe St. Christau

165km Ride

2200m Ascent 

A short cycle down to the Atlantic to dip your toes, before the “Grand Depart” at 09:00 when the clock starts ticking. A nice gentle ride allowing you to acclimatise.

DAY 3

Lurbe St Christau to

Campan

 

140km Ride

3530m Ascent

 

Today perhaps the most respected Cols in the Pyrénées: Tourmalet and Aubisque. In between you will hardly notice ascending Col de Soulor. Truly a day to remember.

DAY 4

Campan to

Massat

180km Ride

 3110m Ascent

 

A long hard but rewarding day taking on Col D’Aspin, Col de Peyresourde and Col de Portet D’Aspet after which there is a long descent into Massat.

DAY 5

Massat to Prades

 

145km Ride

3400m Ascent

 

This is the last tough day. Starting with the gradual climb of Col de Port, after which you take on Col du Pailheres and are rewarded with breathtaking views. The day finishes with a well earned rest in Prades.

DAY 6

Prades to Cerbere

98km Ride

620m Ascent

 

Today you will finally hit the Mediterranean.
But don’t be fooled for although the distance and ascent are far less than encountered on the previous days there are still some large rolling cliff tops. Also the clock is ticking. You must reach the finish in Cerbère before 13:00 [When the 100th hour is up!].

DAY 7

Travel Home.

After yesterday’s joy and the nights celebrations you will be taken to the airport for your flight home.
